Evan Zaleschuk - Registered Massage Therapist

Hello!

I'm Evan Zaleschuk, RMT

I am a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) in Nelson, B.C. with over 28 years experience. My focus is on therapeutic massage which can include many different styles depending on your body’s needs. A variety of modalities I use in my treatments include:

I graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy, after which I moved to White Rock, BC to open a massage therapy clinic. After 3 successful years in this clinic, I expanded to a home-based clinic with four other RMTs for 22 years. I’ve taught at both West Coast College of Massage Therapy and CDI College.

Over the course of many years I have trained in various massage modalities but specialize in visceral manipulation. I trained extensively through the Barral Institute in Florida, completing levels VM 1-6 and was also a Teaching Assistant for levels VM 1-4.

Evan’s massages are truly medicine. He focuses on my specific issues and really targets the root of the problem. In doing so, he has provided me with more relief than a handful of other specialists. Very respectful, professional, and passionate - I trust him with my healing process without reservation.
Kristin
I have greatly benefited from Evan’s work as a visceral manipulation therapist and am grateful he works here in Nelson. He is a very skillful, intuitive, focused, ethical and empathetic practitioner.

Massage Treatments

A Registered Massage Therapist, RMT, is a trained healthcare professional with over 2,000 hours of schooling, qualified to assess your condition and perform massage therapy treatments accordingly. RMTs are regulated under the Health Professions Act and associated legislation, the Massage Therapists Act.
Visceral
Viscera relates to the internal organs of the body, such as the liver, kidneys and intestines etc. Visceral massage is a gentle technique that assesses the relationship between the body’s organs and other structures. It aids in the release of the connective tissue which may be presenting as chronic pain elsewhere in the body, and helps to break up any scar tissue from surgeries or physical traumas. An experienced therapist uses their hands to move and release fascial restrictions to encourage the optimal movement and function of your internal organs.
Myofascial Release
Fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue that extends from head to toe, and front to back. Myofascial release allows the connective tissue fibers to re-organize themselves by freeing up fascial adhesions. The body’s innate restorative powers are then improved, thereby restoring tissue health, increasing range of motion and eliminating pain.
Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage involves the therapist using their hands, fists, knuckles, forearms and elbows to manipulate the muscles. Deep tissue massage techniques vary in rate, rhythm, and depth. You and your therapist will work together to ensure your comfort level addresses your pressure requirements.

Swedish
A popular massage technique, Swedish massage is characterized by the use of long, fluid strokes. Swedish massage is effective in increasing circulation to promote a deep relaxation effect especially useful for stress management.
Sports
The goal is to achieve maximum performance and physical conditioning by increasing flexibility of the tissue using combinations of Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Myofascial Release. It is typically used before and after events/workouts, as well as for regular maintenance, to reduce the chance of injury and pain.
Craniosacral
Craniosacral Therapy is a specialized fascial technique that works to free the connective tissue surrounding brain, spinal cord, and surrounding membranes and bones, from restrictions. By gently manipulating the bones of the cranium, craniosacral therapy allows the therapist to remove restrictions that may be impeding the flow of the cerebral spinal fluid. This treatment allows a more holistic healing of the body, including conditions such as migraine, tension headaches, ear infections, post-concussion disorders, and spinal cord injuries.

FAQ

You are not required to have a referral to see a Registered Massage Therapist. If you have an extended health care plan, you need to check with your insurer to see if a referral is required in order to be reimbursed for the treatments.
Yes, some of the contraindications are as follows: infections, burns, infectious diseases, hemophilia, fever (above 38.5*C), some metastatic cancers, recent surgery, blood clots and others. Please consult your massage therapist if you have any concerns.

I will require you to fill out a health history form usually done prior to the treatment. Afterward the therapist will begin by asking you several questions to establish what areas that need to be addressed. I will perform assessments and testing to evaluate your condition and determine what treatment protocol will best be suited help resolve the presenting condition.

It is important to list all health concerns and medications so the therapist can adapt the session to your specific needs without doing any harm. It is also important to list any allergies so the therapist is aware if he/she needs to use a different oil or lotion during the session.

Let your massage therapist know your comfort level. The type of massage will direct what areas of the body need to be exposed or not. It is possible to work on a client who is dressed; most visceral treatments are done fully clothed. Swedish or relaxation massage requires an application of oil or lotion however your massage therapist is required to cover/drape you so that only the area in which they are working is exposed. Your decision to wear your clothes is perfectly acceptable; bring clothes that you can get oil on like a bathing suit or shorts and a tank top.
A consultation with your massage therapist can help you establish a treatment program which fits your treatment protocol and rehabilitation. Your massage therapist is part of your recovery team and is involved with your rejuvenation and in the maintenance of your health. It will be discussed between the two of you as to how best to proceed with maximum efficiency for treatment, and the timing of sessions.
Visceral Manipulation was developed by world-renowned French Osteopath and Physical Therapist Jean-Pierre Barral and is a very gentle technique that mobilizes organs which may have a fascial restriction. Comparative studies found Visceral Manipulation beneficial for various physical dysfunction and disorders, chronic pain, and concussion.

I like to support my online and local business community whenever I can. Here are a few businesses with offerings that could be beneficial for you:

I first started seeing Evan for treatments after my husband and I were involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. I suffered breaks, bruising and internal injuries, and was quite ill. My husband first met with Evan and, after discussing my injuries, Evan wanted to see me for visceral manipulation treatments, which I was not familiar with at the time. I was hesitant at first, but really needed help. Even after my first visit I felt some relief from the pain and upset. There have been ups and downs with my recovery, but without Evan’s skill in visceral manipulation and massage it definitely would’ve been a longer journey to physical and mental healing. Evan is a very experienced and skilled professional, knowledgeable, compassionate and good-hearted. My husband calls him “Magic Man '' because what he can do for your body and soul is truly magic!

I originally went to see Evan for work regarding concussion symptoms, and a stubborn neck issue from when I had hit my head. He has managed to ‘loosen up’ areas that have been stuck and bothersome for a very long time. I continue to book appointments because he just seems to have a knack for getting right to the spot that is causing the issue. Evan's method of visceral manipulation is gentle, highly effective, and he can really ‘dig in’ when needed. I would absolutely recommend Evan to all my friends and family!
